Designing jewellery is my eighth career – I worked in the film industry as a 1st assistant director. After 2001 there wasn’t much work in Vancouver – in my spare time I came up with several ideas of things I would like to do.
In 2003, I spent 2 days with my friend Karin a trained goldsmith – who taught me how to work with silver – how to melt, pour, pull wire, make plate, solder. My idea was to make a piece of jewellery using a carpenters level as a reminder, for my friends, to help keep them balanced. The idea took off right away; the fourth piece I made was on the masthead of the National Post!
