Yummy Channa Daal Recipe from Jaswant's Kitchen

Channa Daal is a bean dish made from split black chickpeas with their skin removed. You can find this type of legume at most Indian grocery stores. Artfest food vendor, Jaswant's Kitchen, also has it available for sale in her shop section of her website. This is a great dish to try, especially for vegetarians looking for more protein rich meal options.

1 cup channa daal (split black chickpeas with skin removed)
4 cups  water
1 small round bottle gourd (a.k.a. kaddu - found in Indian grocery stores)
1  wadhi* crushed (optional - see note below)
2  whole green chillies (stems removed)
1 tbsp Jaswant’s Kitchen Tadka Masala
2 tsp salt
¼ tsp Jaswant’s Kitchen Garam Masala

Visit Jaswant's website for more of her delicious authentic Indian recipes. She'll be exhibiting at our end of year Artfest Toronto show - stop over to her booth to sample some of her scrumptious Indian food.

Jaswant's Kitchen spices it up for Artfest Toronto!

Jaswant Kular, owner and creator of Jaswant’s Kitchen,  has created a tempting line of all-natural Indian spice blends (with recipes) that allow anyone to create healthy, authentic tasting Indian food at home.

Using 100% natural Indian spices to turn a simple meal into an Indian gourmet delight is Jaswant's Kitchen's goal. Be sure to stop over to her booth (or follow your nose) to sample some of her recipes which she'll have available at  Artfest Toronto in the Distillery District over Labour Day weekend.

With the choice of six different blends including Tadka Masala, Tandoori Masala, Garam Masala, Curry Powder, Chai Masala, and Raita Salt, Jaswant sells them individually or in packages to suit every palate and heat/spice taste. Some of their packages include lentils, rice and whole spices and all of Jaswant’s Kitchen spice blends are 100% natural and free from preservatives and artificial colouring!

Watch Jaswant in the kitchen while she shares easy Indian cooking methods!

A little bit more about Jaswant......

Jaswant was born and raised in Punjab, India, in a farming family. She grew up spending a lot of time in the kitchen with her grandmother, who was extremely accomplished in her culinary skills and had a strong knowledge of Ayurvedic remedies. Jaswant learned from example to treat the land and the livestock with respect, a value which she maintains until today.

The end result of her trials was a very simple system of home cooking where you know what goes in your food. So simple, in fact, that anyone can do it. People with busy lives could even delegate the task to a nanny or housekeeper. She’s been sharing the spice blends with her clients, family and friends ever since then. About three years ago, Jaswant decided to market these amazing spice blends and make them available to the public

Wilton Cheese available at Artfest Kingston!

Did anyone say 'cheese curds'?  Wilton Cheese Factory makes the best cheese curds around! Just ask anyone in and around the area of Kingston and they will tell you!

All About the Cheese:

Since 1867, The Wilton Cheese Factory operated as a Farmer’s Cooperative until it was purchased by the Jensen family in the 1970s.  One of the stipulations of the purchase was that the factory maintain its original name and the Jensen family honoured that request.

The family tradition of artisan cheese manufacturing remains their primary focus, and ensures their old fashioned, full bodied natural flavours.  The Wilton Cheese "Old World Curing Process” was set down by Arne Jensen in 1925 and is still closely followed today.

Each cheese has been made with the utmost care and attention to ensure a premium product for your palate.  Taste why at Wilton Cheese, they haven’t changed a thing!

Visit the Wilton Cheese Factory site to place an order - http://www.wiltoncheese.com/.  Get your cheese while quantities last at Artfest Kingston!
