Japanese Metalworking Techniques by Y. Stern

Since 1995, owner and founder of Y. Stern carefully handcrafts a fine selection of silver and gold jewellery and silver and niobium watches. Yair Stern is a self-taught artisan who moved to Canada just seven years ago. Since then, has been experimenting with new materials and techniques.

Yair work's involves Mokume Gane, a Japanese metalworking procedure that produces a mixed-metal laminate containing distinctive layered patterns in the work.  Niobium is a type of soft metal that is often found in a mineral. It's name was found in Greek Mythology.

Among Yair's work, you’ll find various styles and materials that form a large eclectic collection with prices ranging from $35 to $ 1500. All of Yair's jewellery is created in his studio where he personally controls each stage of production from design, preparation of Mokume Gane, assembly, stone setting and casting.

Y. Stern's fine jewellery can be found during the Artfest Toronto event this Labour Day long weekend at the Distillery Historic District from Sept 4th - 7th!
