Christopher Harding's painting technique begins with a pencil drawing on water-colour paper. Using gouache paint, the painting is carefully rendered so that colours do not overlap. Once the gouache is dry, a coat of India ink is applied to the entire piece.
The next step after the ink has set, is to skillfully wash the ink from the painting. The resulting technique remarkably resembles the traditional Japanese wood block paintings. Christopher has spent many years reseraching the tradtions of Japanese Kimono and Wood block prints. His work has a pastel quality of colour. The spraying technique enhances the propertires of the gouache paint. The painting series is both landscapes and Kimono images.
