More Activities

The Easel Invasion

Get ready! The Easel Invasion is back! Sponsored by Art Noise. Stand back and watch, or jump in and experience painting en plein air in City Park. Each afternoon from 1-4 pm, 22 art easels will be set up for visitors to paint and create. Led by one of the talented artists from Art Noise, Kingston’s new artist supply store, you will be guided through a step-by-step lesson on composing your masterpiece using top quality artists paints provided by Tri-Art Inc. Take it home or donate it to the Artfest Kids and Family Arts Education Inc. silent auction.

Outdoor Theatre Arts

The Shadowland Theatre artists will have a busy weekend and want YOU to participate. There are costumes to make, crazy hats to build, bird puppets to complete, a giant canoe to build and a performance to choreograph. Collaboration is key to the success of the Explore and Discover performance on July 3rd. If you have a tiny inkling or a huge desire to experience theatre participation, then this is for you! Please come and join us in the fun and creative work. We all know that DOING is better than watching, and creates memorable experiences. That is what Artfest is all about!

Stilt Walking
Join stilt walking master Rick Simon and try walking on stilts. He says anyone can do it. He was right! Even I did it! Suggested donation $10 for a lesson. Located in the Art Central Area.

Family Picnic Table Painting Project

Artfest families will once again have the chance to participate in our picnic table project. This event was such a hit last year that we’re bringing it back- Bigger and Better! Twenty large picnic tables will be ready to act as our canvases for the weekend. Stop by for a few minutes or spend the afternoon painting with your family and friends. Each table will feature a different theme based on the places and things we explore and discover for example; hidden treasure, coral reef, ancient Egypt, black holes, the lost and found, new planets, a pirate map, the worlds greatest inventions, the secret garden, Canadian landscapes, in the clouds, robots, around the world, under the microscope, the mad scientist, or deep in the jungle. You can bid on your table in the silent auction with the proceeds going to support Artfest Kids and Family Arts Education Inc. non-profit

PARTICIPAINT@Artfest

Artfest welcomes back Ottawa’s celebrated mural artist Arthur II for his fourth year. Over 1000 visitors painted side by side with Arthur in 2015 and created a magnificent 80 ft. mural depicting the ‘Friends Across the Water’ theme.  Join us to start afresh with a new one: Explore and Discover. We have no idea what imagery will appear this year and neither does Arthur. That is what makes this project so interesting…it is all based on the layers of rich colours and texture that YOU add to the mural. Arthur II is inspired by what transforms over the first two days on the festival. On day three he works his magic. Using what everyone else has added, he draws out large imagery and transforms the 80ft wall into a massive art mural. What will it be this year? Come by and PARTICIPAINT@Artfest!

Gorgeous paint colours are provided by Kingston’s Tri-Art manufacturer of artists paint!. All-ages welcome. Drop in anytime and Participaint!

Born and raised in Ottawa, Arthur II has a wealth of art experience from a diverse artistic career of painting, drawing and creating. His true gift is collaboration and leadership. Hence his mural concept has really taken off with festivals in Ottawa, Winnepeg, Kingston, Peterborough, Memphis and Toronto. You cannot help grabbing a paint brush and joining in when you come across the action. Everybody is an artist.

Zimbabwe Sculpture Pavilion
Participate in a free stone-sculpting workshop with Zimbabwean-Canadian stone sculptor, and local Kingston artist, Chaka Chikodzi. Join us daily from 10:00am to 3:00pm. Space is limited on a first come first serve basis. No experience necessary; all materials and tools provided; Ages 15+
